The Pelvic Floor Olympics- Join the 4 Week Challenge!

In honor of the upcoming Winter Olympics, I thought we could participate in a fitness challenge of our own focusing on all things Pelvic Floor!  Each Monday during the month of February, I will release a blog highlighting the topics that will then be covered on Empower Women’s Health Facebook and Instagram pages.  I encourage you to follow along, comment on what the movement of the day felt like or how the dysfunction discussed has impacted you.  I want to create a community that is happy to open up about topics that can be difficult to discuss.  Just know that this is a judgement-free zone and designed to help as many women as possible!  So let’s get started…

During this first week I’ll be highlighting muscles and joints that may be affecting your pelvic floor function because of tightness, weakness or compensatory movements.  The reason for this is that the Pelvic Floor does not function independently, it is part of a system.  We need to assess this entire system to determine our best course of treatment, otherwise a key component may be missed preventing your overall progress towards complete Pelvic Health.

During this month-long challenge, I will ask you to try different exercises, assess your own bladder health, determine your ability to contract and relax the pelvic floor and show you how poor posture can affect just about everything.  This challenge is designed to make you think outside the box to determine if perhaps, your Pelvic Floor function is not quite where you want it to be.  Good Luck Pelvic Olympians!

Yours in Pelvic Health,

Danielle
